Sunset in Uitenhage in South Africa's Eastern Cape Province by antonroland Anton Roland de Klerk, shot with Canon EOS 5D Mk1 a.k.a. 5D Classic
Uitenhage Sunset

So an evening or three ago I had some time between appointments. The sky looked potentially promising and so I rushed to an old favourite spot and played a bit.

My weapon of choice was my trusty old Canon EOS 5D Mk1 or 5D Classic as they are also known. The lens was an EF 50mm f/1.4. There is only one of these in Canon's lens line-up so I will spare you the full alphabet soup description.

Getting home I did a basic exposure blend edit with a few other quick tricks in Photoshop. At this point I remembered how important good technique is regardless of what you shoot.

For one I should have used a remote shutter release. Even if the camera is on a decent sturdy tripod movement can still creep in and it did.

As soon as I make a mistake spectacular enough to share I promise to do so. I might even do a basic blog article about it. For now I will simply say that a tripod is a wonderful thing. It does, however, NOT guarantee bomb-proof results.

The use of a good sturdy (read: rather expensive!) tripod should be one of a number of skills in your bag.

In the near future I will release a few landscape images that will be available as single sale works. This image will not be one of them but it did remind me of a good few cobwebs in my technique.

Now I do a lot of photography in my dayjob but those are not for sharing publicly. They are also often not as much fun as chasing sunsets. Let's simply leave it at that.

The commercial work I am blessed to do is mostly for an agency and I trust you will understand I am also not allowed to share those images. I do sneak in a behind-the-scenes shot or two from time to time.

I am also blessed in always finding new opportunities and right now I am building a relationship with a local business entity in the aviation circles. Be sure to watch this space for exciting things happening there.

Wonderful new possibilities

See you soon, happy shooting!
